Let me clarify this: Yagami was spelled that way for a reason, because, as it turns out, Yagami spelled backwards is 'imagaY' Now, I do believe they did this for a reason:
1. Because the creator AND the artist both liked L better...
And:
2. Light became a major douche bag after killing L.
