This is my DIY cnc project wooden gear clock made from 10mm MDF.
There is quite a lot of friction in the gears, and I'm hoping to reduce some of that by running them at high speed.

The design is mine, and I didn't give much thought to mimizing friction. Now it will need a much bigger motor than I first anticipated.
