One of Andy Irvine's best tribute songs, written in honour of Michael Davitt (1846-1906), one of the great thinkers and activists of the struggle for Irish Freedom. He knew that the struggle must transcend mere nationalism and must be a fundamental change in society. However, like many other great man of his ilk he was used, betrayed and discarded by the Middle-class opportunists. Thus he is largely forgotten in history, though his legacy lives on.
