@braunblender OK, A god. My bad. I thought you were referring to the Christian God. As I said in my post, only pagans worshiped things of the creation, not the creator. Of course I have heard these things. Perhaps you need to reread my post. Maybe I overuse the term pagan. I use the term to encompass all religions that worship a part of the earth instead of a creator.

@Deke101 i never said god, i specifically said "A GOD" made the sun rise and set. seriously you've never heard this stuff and you study religious studys. .look up
Surya, a hindu god, Amaterasu (Japan) goddess. just do a search online for appeasing volcano gods. ive got to say it again. . you do religious studies and youve not heard of these things??
-
@braunblender Where does it say God made the sun set and rise 2000 years ago? Strawman. Nothing in my religious studies, other than pagans does it say volcanoes were caused by angry gods. Now you mix apples and oranges. You seem to affix the label of ignorance where it does not apply. As I said before, I love science and I am still a believer in God. The two ar not mutually exclusive.
-
@Deke101 insanity was caused by demonic possession , now were know it due to chemical and structural anomalies in the brain. . the list is endless on what was attributed to god/s. and EVERY single time we have been able to explain it with simple logical scientific explanations. . given this track history the likelihood of a god creating the universe is as slim as the idea that the earth is the centre of the solar system and the sun and planets revolve around us
-
@Deke101 not really because your using 2 definitions of faith one being trust and one being illogical. throughout human and religious history the part of god/s is nothing more than the ignorance of humans. . 2000 years ago a god made the sun rise and set. . now we know its nothing more than the earth rotation on its axis. . volcanoes were cause by a god being angry. . now we know its nothing more than plate tectonics and geological hot spots
-
@Astrobrant2 I agree completely. I also believe the universe was created in such a way as to allow us to believe in God or not. Yes, I am a Christian, yes, I love science, and yes, we did indeed go to the moon.
-
@braunblender I would not argue that the universe as we know it CAN'Thave been without cause. I would simply say that the beginning of our universe, which is unknown to any of us, is a matter of faith just as the existence of God is.
-
@thedutchman01 I believe it goes farther than our ability to comprehend. I believe it is a fundamental property of the Universe.
-
@Astrobrant2 "There wasn't even a "before.""
Not in the meaning that we understand now.
But that doesnot necessarily mean that that is actually true. It just might be beyond our comprehension.
So it is an exercise in futility to really go into it. Atleast for now anyway.
HOW CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND CHADS ARGUMENT
1. TYPE IN ALL CAPS
2. ???
3. WIN ARGUMENT!!
PROBLEM?

This guy needs to learn how to use words and caps lock correctly. BECAUSE IT'S REALLY ANNOYING WHEN SOMEONE TYPES LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE NORMAL PUNCTUATION AFTERWARD. Learn to type correctly and not change peoples arguments then maybe people will respect you more. Maybe.
