Regensburger Domspatzen orchestra and choir perform Mozart's 'Great Mass in C minor' Saturday night.
"The 85 years of your life have not always been easy: the global economic crisis, the Nazi dictatorship, war, imprisonment. And yet we have always seen the goodness of God who has called and guided you."
The affectionate words of Benedict XVI closed an evening of musical memories, at the concert given by the "Regensburger Domspatzen" orchestra and choir in honor of his brother Msgr. Georg Ratzinger, maestro di cappella emeritus, apostolic protonotary, for the occasion of his 85th birthday.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Great Mass in C minor resounded through the elevating ambiance of the Sistine Chapel, an expression, the Holy Father stressed, of the "profound search for the forgiveness and mercy of God ", which then turns to radiant joy in the existence of the Heavenly Father.
The Holy Father shared many memories as he spoke out spontaneously in German, especially those of his brother leading the historical traditional choir.
"In every expression of human gratitude there are always traces of expectation, hope and prayer - concluded Benedict XVI - for this reason, today we ask the good Lord to grant you, dear Georg, still more good years where you may experience the joy of God and the joy of music, and where you may still serve humanity as a priest. "
Well, why not give a treat to your brother on his birthday? one nice thing about being pope, and yes i know other people are enduring quite a lot. still, it's nice to make one person's life a little brighter
