Stan Winston Studio created multiple raptors for JURASSIC PARK, including full-size cable-controlled puppets, half-puppets, insert legs and men-in-suits.

This exclusive "Making of" video, narrated by raptor suit performer, 25-year SWS supervisor & co-founder of Legacy Effects, John Rosengrant, walks you through the evolution of JURASSIC PARK's raptor suits, from first foam fabricated "garbage bag test" to the finished suits that you see in the final film.

Max, we didn't think you were joking. But we don't make the suits. You'd have to contact Legacy Effects. Or (from the looks of the comments) you can just drop Brianna Dennis a line. - David

It always amazes me how people make these things! I wish directors would still use practical creations like this, instead of CGI. But I know they use CGI alot more since it's probably alot cheaper and "easier" to create things in the computer. But Jurassic Park made me like dinosaurs and the raptors are my favorite ^^ Seeing on how they were made is just awesome!

Ereptile, Glad you're enjoying our behind the scenes videos! You'll be happy to know that Practical FX are making a big comeback and many directors are now insisting on having "real" stuff on set to shoot. And they're realizing that it's actually far CHEAPER and yields a better result to mix practical and digital techniques rather than relying solely on CGI. CGI is neither cheaper, nor easier, if you want to make something look totally real. Using every tool in the bag is always best. -Matt

    Steven,

    2 Answers:

1.Through an opening in the belly. You can see it at 3:39-3:43.

    2. Through a subtle mesh opening in the neck and a video monitor as well to see what the camera sees.

Wow, I had no idea you had used suits in the movie, and I've seen all the bonus material on the DVDs and Blu-rays multiple times. I just thought you were geniuses at hiding cables.
