Can anyone tell me the name of the trumpet player on the very left. He's wearing a white hat. I'm pretty sure i know him from Lafayette Jazz Workshop. He was my theory teacher. I'm blanking his name right now....

@waltandrus well you have a point. The last time I saw the band live was 97 with Diane Schuur.... Grover Mitchell was conducting... on the program guide were lists of the people who were hired by Basie.. Now Grover's gone.. and you are right I dont' know who is still alive in the band.... But Love the sound!

@newstart2009 Bill Hughes is leading the Basie Band. As far as I'm concerned when Basie died, it became a "Ghost Band". I don't know YOUR definition of a "Ghost Band". Bill is an alumni with Count. I don't know how many other members are still alive or touring with the current Basie Band but the are TOP NOTCH!

@DYNODRUM Yes Thad Jones took over after Basie's death...Then after that Frank Foster (Who did a better job in my opinion) lead the band, then after that Grover Mitchell took over. I don't know who leads know but still it's the only band that's not a ghost band.

It looks like the great Byron Stripling playing in the trumpet section. He went on to play with the great Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd.
