makes me think that perhaps 2 stroke and petrol had drained into that cylinder. im going to put it all back together with new rings and gaskets (old ones were reused with loads of hylomar, looked horrific!!!) and take it for a blitz and see if that un gums the poor bugger!
i spent all yesterday fettling the bike, had the carbs off a million times, occasionally the left hand cylinder ran well but only when just running out of fuel, I adjusted the floats to compensate this but no avail, my bike had been sitting approx 3 years before starting yesterday. I took the barrels off last night, rings are fine and plugs even showed the right colour!!! there was a lot of oil in the bottom of the left hand crank.
My '83 RG250 gamma munched LHS cylinder top of ring land came off and destruction ensued..
It had to be bored out twice for a smooth bore.
I wonder if the left bank gets oil starved?
It cost me just shy of AU$2000 to get back in the road. Piston's were $500 plus plus....
1 week later the alternator shorted out causing the bike to only idle.. Scary when had my kid on back at an intersection!! But disconnected the battery and bike run fine, but no lights etc..
