Bipolar & LSD

Listening to discussions about LSD by Albert Hoffman sounds very similar, in my experience, to bipolar states I've had.

Thank you for sharing. Most interesting is that many people who have taken LSD have found their experiences to be highly enlightening and described as spiritual. I have experienced street "acid" and psilocybin mushrooms, but I had no desire to do them again, nor did I find the experience to be anything like the emotional episodes that landed me in emergency psych units or incapable of functioning as "normal" people. Mind you I add these comments w/o first listening to Albert Hoffman.

@BorderlineNOS Hello! I never have used hallucinagens because of the negative impact that classification of drug can have. When I was a young teen I read a book by S.E. Hinton called "That was Then , This is Now", where a brilliant young man took acid and was NEVER the same. I had my mind made up then. I flipped when I heard accounts of those who did use acid because it was like they were discussing some experiences that I lived when being trapped in mania and locked up in the hospital.

I would say lsd is more like schizophrenia, and bipolar is more like cocaine.

I think you are on to something. I have never taken street drugs but when I talk to those who have and many of the perceptions were similar. Staring at a brick wall that looks so beautiful I just can't take my eyes away. Or suddenly hearing a piece of music like I have never heard it before. This is when I'm in my hypomanic stage. I'm a 72 year old guy who has been coping with what they now call bipolar II since the mid-1960's.

I completely understand. I'm terrified of anything but weed. I also let my doctor know if I use it as I have to be a responsible parent and "mental health consumer". I have been lifted out of mental hell with marijuana;it levitates me above my chronic pain and usually present anxiety. I've have been able to experience reality as it truly, beautifully is because of weed. It's good to get your comment.
