Leó Weiner: Romance for cello, harp & string orchestra, Op. 29

Zsolt Hamar / Budapest Chamber Orchestra
Janos Starker, cello / Melinda Felletar, harp

Many pieces have been called "Romance" but few actually evoke the feeling in me more than this piece, whether that means romantic love or the romance of a time or place. The piece is so beautiful, at times it nearly hurts and has just a hint of melancholy that seems to go hand in hand with romance. I know all the pictures of sunsets and couples are a bit of a cliche, but nothing else seems to fit.

  • I'm glad all of you enjoyed this. It's one of my favorites. I wish more cello players would effect this kind of smooth tone, if it fits the piece. Too often they can sound screechy to me. Cheers!
