I was very fortunate to get a "familiarization flight" in a Canadian Forces CF-18B Hornet on July 14, 2004 as a result of the work I have done on my website. This video shows the HUD display from my takeoff. The flight itself was about forty minutes (it seemed much shorter!) and I will not be uploading any more footage out of respect of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

You can read my story about the flight - how it was arranged, my training, and the flight itself - on my website, http://www.stevesairshow.com . The video of my takeoff is also available on the "Hornet's Nest" DVD (not the HUD, the actual takeoff from off-base).

  • lol Only our western pilots say eh that much

  • Ahh Yes timberwolf we are getting the f-35 in 2017 they are already payed for there going to replace our hornets. it's not the hover version the f-35b we are getting the f-35a lighting II which is a watered down version of the B. theses are the 3 variants

    * F-35A, conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant.

    * F-35B, short-takeoff and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant.

    * F-35C, carrier-based (CV) variant.

    So the more you know ( and the star fly's by)

  • thats freakin amazing

  • what i don't understand is how did u get in one like they don't give free flights must be a price

  • What is the capacity of the external tanks of the CF-18? Are they the same tanks as those used in the US or are they bigger?

  • Very nice, amazing how fast that thing climbs 11,000 feet and don't sweat not having the F22, F35, etc. we cannot afford the few we have and I don't see the US taxpayors approving anything new for some time - maybe our military should start giving us "familiarization flights"; we might reciprocate with more funding. They should take a few of the older trainers and convert to public flight ops.

  • @FSXnut The raptor can carry stores externally. They often will carry tanks externally.

  • @airshowfansh Your a bit off. I believe the Hornet burns JP-8 which is 6.8 pounds per gallon. Then again the hornet is designed to burn just about anything you put in it fuel wise.....

  • I know but everyone bitches at me more when i suggest something that isn't a raptor or f-35 lol

  • @Ralroost Raptors are useless the internal bay might help the stealth and speed but it can only carry a very limited arsenal. They're just too expensive for what there worth

  • Screw that, lets get some goddamn raptors! Oh right, they won't sell them to us will they....

  • I'm Canadian, FUck Chinese or Korean. By WE i meant our country :D
