The only real excuse out of a major traffic violation is if the reason is more serious than the action. Like if you are dying or someone's life or safety is in peril

This makes it seem as though all they do is give out speeding tickets.Everyone exceeds the speed limits one way or another. Including the CHP guys. The job is a lot more than that. It's saving lives & property. BTW, why do violators have to sign the ticket? I know it is a promise to appear but why have them sign it? Just check off in a box "court appearance required?" You ORDER THEM to appear. NOT have THEM PROMISE. Its a lot easier & less hassle. Can some CHP guy answer that one?

I'm no CHP guy, but when you're stopped you are under arrest. They are releasing on you on your own recognizance because you are promising to appear. Failure to sign would cause you to be jailed until your court date.
Only a judge can order someone to appear before them (via a warrant).

In NJ & most states all the cops do is cite the driver & let 'em go. No violator signature is necessary. If a court appearance is required for certain violations, the cop just checks off a box on the ticket that says 'court apearance required'. Its unnecessary to have drivers sign the ticket when it is not required in other states to do the same. To put a guy in jail for a few miles over limit cause he wont sign seems to me to be a waste of valuable police resources & time.

I would probably agree with you, but the legislators make laws, all Peace Officers can do is enforce them. :)
