His music lives on. Phenomenal music, Fantastic voice...R.I.P

He was original and authentic and didn't sell out for money. He remained true to himself. The music 'corporate industry' has ruined many a great musician and music. It is such prostitution and just because he didn't 'make it' by their corporate standards is only a good sign. Joni Mitchell had the same problem with these music pimps. I praise Kenny Rankin and hail him as one of the musical 'greats'. His music will live on and is now immortal.

I wish I could have met Kenny Rankin. My wife turned me onto his music and all I could think is, "How could I not have heard of Kenny Rankin?" What a great voice . his ability to weave in and out and around a melody is absolutely amazing. Beautiful!

@TheSolaccent wow is that so? what did he pass from? I saw hime 3 times over the last few years and was able to speak w him. the last show he seemed a little less comfortable and maybe a little irritable at someone taking his picture up close without asking. I dont think he was feeling well but he allowed us to photo w him. Sweet artistic Kenny. RIP singing with the angels!

It takes a truly gifted musician to be able to capture the essence of the original this well. Wow!

Kenny was a musician's musician and should have been far more famous than he was. An AMAZING vocalist & instrumentalist with a totally unique sensibility and interpretation. His scatting was my favorite of any jazz singer i've ever heard ('Do It In the Name of Love' blew me away every time i heard it....)
So glad i didn't miss the chance to see you in the Bay Area in the 90s...
RIP Kenny... Your music will live on forever...

@mrJAB1954 I heard of his passing shortly after it happened. I was introduced to Mr. Rankin's Music by my mom as a child in Hawaii and to this day his music is still a strong favorite. I teared the day his passing, such a remarkable talent who had graced this world in what was widely known as kindness and humility. I will always regret not having the opportunity to see him play in person and to thank him for sharing his gift and affecting so many aspects of my life and perspective positively.
I saw him in San Diego and he was struggling with his set. He was very apologetic but he noticeably was embarrassed. He apologized profusely with humor. He was a constant gentleman and a real professional. He stated it was the medication he was taking. After cutting the session short, he hung around to sign a few CDs and left. Shortly thereafter, Kenny passed away. That night, his departure was classy and intimate; very much like his music. He was one of our generations legendary vocalists.

My husband and I saw him 3 times - twice at a small cafe place called The Turning Point in Piermont, NY, and another time at Music at the Mansion in Montebello, NY. He is one of the reasons we got together - we both loved his music before we knew each other!
