I've been wanting to do some video recording of my ski trips, and picked up a Contour helmet cam for my 2011 trip to Utah. This is a sample from one of our "speed runs" - one of my buddies was carrying a GPS unit that could estimate max speed, so we took one of the slopes straight down. We went fast enough that when I crossed some ski trails, I was able to "float" over their edges.
Max speed estimate: 54 mph
The video was originally so rocky that it was unviewable - unfortunately, the camera's mounting options were either to affix it permanently to my helmet (definitely not desirable), or the goggle-strap mount. Which is nice in theory, but terrible in practice, as the elastic is never tight enough to hold against all the stutters and jitters I encounter at high speed. Luckily, my buddy came to the rescue, and recommended http://www.vreveal.com/ - it made a world of difference!
I've since returned the Contour and will be trying out the GoPro for this year's trip to Whistler.
