Where did the writer get the idea? I know I've seen "somebody wins at monte with a staple gun and ends up in the emergency room with the winnings (and the card) stapled to him" in a book somewhere (although I want to say that, in the book, it was stapled to his forehead).

That was pretty clever. I liked how he kept smiling at the hospital with the card and the money stapled to his broken hand. He won, even if he lost. I like that!
