SCHIP MASSIVE TAX INCREASE

The"chairman's mark" for the Finance Commitee's concideration of SCHIP legislation contains a staggering tax increase on cigars. The mark would increase the tax on large cigars from a maximumum of .04875 per cigar to a maximum of $10 per cigar, an increase of 20,413% (not a typo) theis would destroy the cigar industry. Keep reciting your liberal rhetoric! This tax is worthless because people are simply going to stop buying cigars, which means no more tax revenue on cigars, duh!

The other part of the cigar tax bill is switching exsisting money from seniors heal care and labeling it for children. I work in health care - children rarely get sick, but seniors use medical services alot. Why penalize seniors on fixed income? Truth is, the bill as it is stated, would pay for health care for "children" whose family makes 4 times over the exsisting poverty level. Think twice before you vote for someone who wants to cut benifits to our seniors.

I agree with you 100% it's very hard to collect taxes from an industry that is no longer in existence (ironically, from the taxes imposed on them)
