Fortunately for NBC, "Manimal" was just around the corner.
-
@WatchVenusSpa - He was actually sacked in 1981, which was 2 years before the "Be There" promo campaign.
-
@cntower01 I thought Silverman hung on far beyond this and wasn't gassed until after the infamous "BE THERE!" campaign.
-
Wait a minute...created by Donald E. Westlake? The Dortmunder guy?
-
@joboots007 Yeah, he was fired soon afterward.
-
@cntower01 Yeah, was Fred Silverman over his head when he gave the green light for this???
-
It's was both SuperTrain and the U.S. boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games which NBC was suppose to cover that almost drove NBC into total bankrupcy!

I agree.
I remember hearing the new opener the very first time. And, as you pointed out, after those 18 seconds - it sounds brassy. I thought 'why does that sound so sad?'
Dragging on is more like it.
It was as if the music composer just said 'to heck with this...'.
Perhaps the composer should have taken a step back and let that upbeat sound take over? you know: "Just listen."
Cuurious. I wonder why the music got changed to begin with?

This was the theme music that I remembered from the show. I saw the other clip with the pics of the cast and wondered where the hell were Ilene Graff and Joey Aresco...evidently, they weren't with the series for the entire run like I had thought. Still, these clips are good, cheesy fun!
Most reviewers thought this show was a trainwreck (Pun Intended)

From what I read on the web, Supertrain was such an expensive flop that it nearly derailed NBC into bankruptcy.
