The Three Minute Sociologist: Deviance? (uh oh, you'll need 8 minutes!)

How often have you said Wow, thats weird?
Whats going on there?
Your personal collection of experiences
Things that youve learned as right or wrong
How does a sociologist see this?

a. Its about norms.
Rules for living come from our culture, from groups around us and our personal understanding of these rules  come from cultural values, beliefs and ultimately from attitudes

b. Deviance is some departure from the normative order
Notice not abnormal but the normative order.

c. In this brief overview Ill look at only a part of deviance basically three things
1. Deviance isnt always bad.
2. Deviance may be primary or secondary
3. And deviance has at least two seemingly contradictory functions
