Revolution, Mr. Richard Matthew
Stallman comes to St. Joseph's
College of Engineering and Technology
(SJCET), Palai for a talk on 'Free Software
and Your Freedom' on 9th September
2010. He inaugurates 'Swathan
thra'- the Free Software Users Group,
an initiative of the students of SJCET.
The focus of Swathanthra is on
promoting and supporting Free
Software.
Swathanthra now gets a much
dreamt thrust from Mr. Stallman. He
is a renowned software freedom
activist. He launched the Free Software
Movement in 1983, and
founded the Free Software
Foundation (FSF) in October 1985.
Mr. Stallman pioneered the concept
of copyleft, and is the main author of
the GNU General Public License
(GPL), the most widely used free
software license.
SJCET was established in 2002 by
the Diocese of Palai. With systematic
implementation of a vision guided
corporate plan, the college has made
rapid strides. The college has grown
to a Centre of Excellence and highly
sought after destination for Higher
Education.
