If you listened to your 8th grade teacher (by the way I am in 8th grade myself) then you would know that we do live in a (democratic) republic (and that does fit the definition of a true republic) A Democracy means that everybody votes and decides on every issue rather than having elected representatives that do it for them. The only reason Americans say they live in a Democracy is so they don't associate themselves with other totalitarian republics.
The thing they left out is, it doesn't matter if they are informed or not, they are part of this country and so they should vote. It's majority rule, what next, should we put a charge on voting? A test? It doesn't matter why they are voting, it just matters that they are getting their voice heard. Plus not everyone is exposed to the facts, maybe fox news should cover more of the issues and less time telling people that they shouldn't vote. They are a news station....right?
I disagree, but not completely, a democracy is 'rule by the people.' Which we do by electing officials. It is the majority rule. I do agree that a republic also fits our government, we do elect senators and representatives to vote for us basically. So, we are not a true Democracy, and we are not a true Republic. So, I agree and disagree with you, maybe you should go back and look over the definitions you looked up though.
Well tell me how a country that lets people that don't understand the current issues in politics a well managed one?

What are you talking about? I vote democrat all the time. Obama is a democrat and he is the leader.

Absolutely. It should be a mandatory vote, and then all voices can be heard.

Now I am very liberal, and I absolutely hate fox news, but this is one of those very rare occasions where they're actually right about something.

Fox News is the most worthless news syndication on TV right now, but even they have good points sometimes.

i don't think that the question is "how informed is the younger electorate", but rather "how informed is the electorate in general"
