it was even worse in houston,tx. my great grandmother would always tell me the stories of how whites would come to the black areas and burn random houses at night, and as mothers and fathers ran out with their children in arms the klan would shoot and laugh. at age 16 in 1947, she witnessed her own little sister murder, she was sprinting down the street yelling "mama!, mama!" as three white men chased her down and shot her at point blank range. my grandma burst in tears when she shared this.
