The rain started to come down, they got out the tarp, but the guys pulling out the tarp behind 2nd base and 1st base were faster than the guys running behind 3rd to home. The end result is that the home plate didn't get covered. It was raining hard. The home plate area became a sloppy mess. And because so much rain was on the tarp, it was impossible to pull back into place... no matter how hard they tugged.
