Most of the people living in this country today know nothing of their history. As a historian I would just like to mention that the men who wrote our Constitution had a great deal of experience with European nations where religion dominated national policy. The result was Inquisitions, wars and religious pogroms that resulted in the death of millions. They wished to make sure that no such thing happened in this country. There are people today with an agenda to reverse this very wise decision.

Great video. Great clips. Just have to comment that George W. Bush made a contradictory statement to his excellent statement in the video when he spoke his true (unscripted) feelings publicly saying that non-religious Americans are not patriots, cannot be considered patriots, and shouldn't be allowed citizenship (apparently regardless of whether they are natural born citizens or not) simply because our current (un-Constitutional) National Motto "says we are one nation under god".

I would call for more respect and less contest, actually. When it comes to religion, there are different value sets that correlate with different followers. No beef for hindus, but plenty for others. Wear nothing on your head if you're a man in worship for Baptists, but jews have the opposite rule. It's really just not worth comparing, because each is unique and deserves respect. As for race though... that's a manmade construction. There is only one known race, and that is human.

Let's be clear here. Nazis were adherents to the leadership of a Christian by the name of Adolf Hitler. But most citizens of Nazi Germany were just regular people who were good and decent. Not every Nazi was a war criminal. Schindler, for example. The Nazis that provided food and shelter to the Frank family until they were betrayed. And most monotheistic religions believe in the idea that their way is the only way. It's not as simple as hearing "Islam" and plugging your ears.

I would say the point of this is to acknowledge how america has never been, and is still not, a perfect union, and to inspire us to discuss how we may improve that.
