"Hefty recoil"? Good Lord... :)

PS: Provided the assailant was only 10-15 yards way?!

Hmmm...I guess what would be the impact of a .480 Ruger fired from the Alaskan at a human assailant; provided the bullet is a Buffalo Bore 410 gr?? Devastating, I believe!

I have also shot the 454 version, and holding it properly, it is very controllable.

Hey Jeff, I was skimming the freshly published .pdf file of Davidson's guns for sale on Gallery of Guns, and saw they had an exclusive version of the Alaskan in .44 with a blued cylinder, cylinder latch, and the pin that secures the hammer assembly to the frame. I couldn't think of anyone better to ask, so I'm wondering...is there any practical reason to have those components in blued alloy steel rather than stainless? I uh, have a hard time it was made to be aesthetically pleasing.

I greatly prefer stainless steel myself, especially if the rest of the gun is stainless.

Man I had the chance to buy one in 480 a while back and dang I wish I woulda got it!! I dont see the Alaskan in 480 anymore just 454 and 44 mag. Nice little peice in any caliber but I sure like the idea of having one in 480 to go with my 7.5 inch Super Redhawk. LOL I wonder, why they stopped production then came back with it as a 5 shooter? Maybe the 480 needed alot more metal between the cylinder walls....

Ruger shipped maybe 25 of the 480 Alaskans, then stopped production.

Jeff, Thanks for your information and videos. To my knowledge Ruger has now discontinued the Super Redhawk Alaskan in 480 Ruger. Question: How would you compare the 480 Ruger to the 454 Casull in stopping power using Buffalo Bore ammo ?

They are both pretty much equal when using heavy bullets against heavy game. The 454 has an advantage using lightweight bullets.
