Locals flock to Theobroma for its baked goods and sandwiches.

Location:
Colaba

Bakeries and patisseries are in abundance in South Mumbai. With old bakeries still flourishing, it is very hard to lure away die-hard loyalists to the newer ones, but Theobroma has managed to do just that. It has always been our dream to start something shop that sells stuff that we love ourselves to eat. Located on Khusro Bagh in Colaba, in South Mumbai, Theobroma is unpretentious and homely. Theobroma means "food fit for the gods" in Greek. It is also the botanical name for the cocoa tree. The cocoa tree is known as "theobroma cacao" because it used to be drunk by only royals.

The desserts at Theobroma are to die for. The huge range may just overwhelm you, so I suggest that you could try out the traditional and delicious cheesecakes, the tiramisu, or the chocolate mousse. Theobroma has also come up with a wide range of chocolates very recently. Theobroma is also renowned for its brownies. They have about ten varieties, and they sell like hotcakes. Our brownies have overshadowed all the other products. It is the most popular product in our store.

The food, first and foremost, is fabulous; excellent pastries and breads. My personal favorite so far has been the mango tart. It has become a very popular breakfast joint. You must try out their sandwiches. For example, the stuffed croissant, served with tomato relish, and the chip butty, which is stuffed with French fries and cheese. For breakfast, we do a whole breakfast range. We do different kinds of eggs; we do toast, butter, and jam; but I think ideally, for breakfast, it is great to have a croissant and a coffee.

In the summer, you must try out their smoothies: the mango smoothie, the carrot cake smoothie, or the chocolate smoothie. Or of course, if you do not have a sweet tooth, you can just sit back with a cup of coffee. We have an age group that varies, right from two and three year olds to fifty and sixty year olds. The ambiance here is friendly, warm, and very cheerful. You may also spot an artist or a writer sitting here and refreshing his mind. I am Premjit Singh, showing you Mumbai.
