A video showing an example of a 5.5m (18 foot) wide road for 2-dir traffic plus bicycles in the "Cycling Utopia" city of Houten in the Netherlands. This road design results in lower speeds and less accidents and although it wouldn't meet minimum requirements for many Road Design Guidelines, it is a great example of "outside of the box" thinking. A Cycling Scotland Video.

  • hehe, i live in Houten myself, and i'm not noticing any discouraging of cars... well, i'm to young to drive (15) but still..

  • It's so narrow, I thought at first you were on a bike trail. The trick is they are taught a different attitude towards cyclists. Motoring is discouraged.
