The Senior Choir of Washington's Shiloh Baptist Church offered this César Franck anthem at the 10:55 a.m. service of worship on Sunday October 25, 2009, a fittingly haunting motif in the lead-up to All Saints Sunday. The 146-year-old, 3,600-member congregation in Washington, D.C., enjoys a diverse musical program under the direction of Choirmaster Thomas Dixon Tyler, who collaborates to great effect with Evelyn Simpson Curenton, the fabulous organist. Mark Francis was on piano, with percussionists Joel Holmes and Gerard Bingham and bassist David Oliver accompanying as well. Shiloh is the third-oldest Baptist congregation in the nations capital. The Senior Choir sings on second Sundays at 7:45 a.m., on fourth Sundays at 10:55 a.m., and on first Sundays at 10 a.m., making full use of the 48-rank Casavant organ. The choir is to perform at the Baptist World Alliance's 2010 convention in Honolulu.
get rid of the piano and percussion! Franck did NOT write it for piano and organ and percussion. He wrote it for the ORGAN! Poorly performed!
