What you are seeing is an autumn dance ritual performed in Port Townsend, US, which was projected via webcast upon a 16 foot tall screen in Newcastle, UK. Performers in the UK allowed their movements to be influenced by what they saw onscreen, thereby creating a duet, in real time, with the US performers. The "outside" was brought "in" as the UK audience viewed an outdoor dance landscape superimposed upon the indoor urban landscape, highlighting the feeling of being "out-of-place," and the awkwardness of substituting a "virtual" connection for a physical one.
This event was a collaboratively produced and directed by dance artists Nala Walla ((US) and Tamara Ashley (UK) in October 2009.
