In this episode, from November 23, 1964, four young men compete for $5000 in the finals of an Ford Aurora Table Top Racing Car Championship. The actual prize was a Ford Mustang and a $2000 scholarship. Mustang was of course a brand new and highly successful car for Ford. The race is officiated by one of Formula 1's greatest drivers, Sir Stirling Moss. Aurora sold a line of Model Motoring slot cars with Moss' name on them.

  • #1 racer grew up to be my junior high school phys ed teacher in PA. He, understandibly, never mentioned this to any of us.

  • I wonder if # 1 still has the trophy, and the "real" Ford Mustang? For that matter did he use the $2000.00 scholarship? Maybe, he just dropped out did drugs, and died in the 'Nam.

  • In my opinion, the Aurora T-Jets with the Pancake motor were the bst cars to race...you had to have a certain degree of skill to race them. later on and even on into today, the cars have magnets to keep them on the track. Might as well just switch on the transformer and let them run by themselves...what fun is that.

  • Wow i never seen this ever in all my time of racing and collecting these cars.

  • These are 'Thunderjet 500' slot cars made by Aurora...

  • This is so cool. Reminds me of my younger days collecting and racing AFX and Tyco slot cars. Great video!

  • @sizzlerjoe1 I really envy you because I never got a chance to go overseas and pick up slot cars from different parts of the world. I have been collecting and racing for 38 years and I have 4000 cars,132 sets,17 trophies and a long client list of repair and restoration. EBAY exploded my collection and brought me connections from folks from Japan, Germany,Australia and the 2 major haven cities for slot cars; Chicago and New York. I have all of Englands Playcraft Highways before T-Jets came out.

  • great vid memories of the past love slot cars

  • Those guys are all in there 60s now.

  • Have over 250 ho slots from around the world. lots of track too-good to see this...
