I had the former honor of being a "learning buddy" for this young man as part of his home schooling.
The home environment he lives is in truly, truly remarkable This experience of his needs mattering is quite real--but not accomplished by parents who would simply do whatever their child wanted without including their own joy, interest, or direction. This "dance" was magical to be around and has helped guide one of the brightest, passionate, self-directed young men I've ever been around. Yannai!

Languaging like "the product of an NVC system", seems not very human to me. I wonder if there is room for more beautiful words in the NVC lexicon, room for more poetry?

yeah nice, and why do you label the kid as an actor/scientist? isn't it enough that he's enjoying those things?
Also i'm confused when he says "take me to the hospital was not what they WANTED to do, it's what they HAD to do"? Come on, they wanted to, for good reason. I believe, as marshall says, that you never have to do anything. OK, I'm minding the words now...
keep the connection over getting your way with your child is of course sound advice.
