Oh, and one more thing. The IMF is about to be banging on YOUR door sometime soon. Your government has done NOTHING to ameliorate your unemployment rate and quite how Spain is going to dig itself out of this slump with your attitude problem and complete refusal to acknowledge the truth is a complete mystery.

This is a very partial view. Your videos only show what is happening on suburban expat ghetto estates in the south. These developments had only one purpose - to cater to tourists and retirees. They were built quite cynically to make a fast buck, with no regard for infrastructure or culture. So when the global crisis hit, the expats started leaving and the estates were left without a reason to exist. There are certainly serious problems in Spain, but most of it looks nothing like this.

@Tabbysnark Well you say with remarkable brevity, "the south", but in truth this problem is along ALL your costas. Not so bad in the north I admit, but a disaster area to this day in the east, the south east and the south. Several hundred miles of coastline blighted by these future eyesores. And these future eyesores are all along your prime residential areas, where your people would normally be enjoying the beaches and sunshine.

Spain is NOT littered with abandoned apartment complexes and boarded-up commercial units. He is describing one small part of a huge country - the Costa Blanca - which is a bit like making a documentary about England and just showing pictures of inner city slums.

The rest of Spain, away from the ex-pat ghettos which blight the Costas, is alive and kicking, despite the high unemployment. Yes, there are many unsold houses but this is due to the global credit crisis, not the Spanish Government.

The developers "conned" every F'n European(besides the Spanish), to buy properties. HAHAHAHAHA SUCKED IN!!! ...The buyers should've done their research. It wasn't the national politicians of the government's fault, but the local councils in the areas where the developments were taking place.

Yes that's true. This is a touristic place. If you go to other spanish places you'll find plenty of life. I'm from Valencia and there's no silence in the street.

Fantastic 3 part video but not fantastic to watch very depressing the euro when it came out first I said to my family that will not work as everyone (nation) has its own level of economy..and I was proved right..and I am NO economist, I am a simple guy in the street, it was just plain common sense, I am Glad here in Uk we did not go down that road, but we are still in trouble.

People have a total disregard for the well being of society. All that matters is build , quickly, cheaply and make the most out of it.

Just pure greed like anywhere else in the world.
