"Hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway" author Randy Johnson follows Lenny and Larry Caudill to 120-year old Caudill Cabin, one of the most historic, isolated cabins preserved on the Parkway. The men's grandfather was one of 14 children raised in the cabin before the 1916 flood wiped out the small cove community that became Doughton Park (Parkway Milepost 241). As the Blue Ridge Parkway reaches its 75th anniversary, the Caudill's heritage, and our appreciation of it, is a gift from the National Park Service to all Americans. The 10-mile roundtrip hike has dozens of stream crossings, a backcountry camping area, and is featured in "Hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway" (visit: www.randyjohnsonbooks.com).
