@TheGreybelly - You can: carpinus carloniniana, American hornbeam. You MUST have permission of the landowner, collect respectfully in the right season for the species of tree, & enough knowledge & experience to keep the tree alive. Look for areas being cleared for houses, roads, shopping centers, etc. Hornbeam is a good tree for novices, but still take diligent care. Note numerous drain holes in containers used in video. Good luck!

Hi.
Love your videos .I wish I could find trees like this here in Jersey. This one is an absolute belter! I've only just started getting into bonsai but I am already totally hooked. You guys give me something to aim for.
Cheers.
Neither can I understand what chajko was saying...but I can tell you what do we use as standard mix for potting trees
That substrate which you can see on the video is just pure pomice containing large scale particles from 10-25mm in diameter. That was base. After that chajko has mixed some smaller scale pomice together with remains of tenisit used from some other probably dead tree. Tenisit is simply crushed bricks...baked clay. Otherwise, we also use floreopor...sort of expanded clay
