Just because a group is labeled as performing two types of music, does not mean that EVERY one of their songs encorporates both styles. For example, you might consider the Beatles to be a Psychadelic rock and Pop band, but some of their later work is psychadelic rock, and their earlier stuff is more pop-sounding. This song DEFINITELY is electro-swing. A more gypsy-jazz sounding song of theirs would be "Pirates" on their album Panic, which has no swing sound at all.

Well, technically speaking, swing has its roots in jazz, and electro-swing is (obviously) based on mixing electronic music with loops from swing music. Now, whether that's "fucking up Jazz" is completely subjective, but it would follow that if you don't like this song, you could logically consider it to be "fucking up Jazz."

And who says an artist's style has to conform to a set of limited archetyes? When I go into music production, I plan to experiment and will seek to combine elements from different genres of electronic in original ways.

That's exactly my point...each genre is distinct from any other hence it has been granted the term 'genre'. You can't draw comparison between two of them because that leaves it open for stupid comparisons like the one I made about the Chili's.

If you could draw a direct comparison between elements of RHCP and rock/funk music, then it would be entirely reasonable to say that RHCP play a genre of music similar to blues, considering that rock's evolution is basically a straight line to blues. Even if every genre is influenced by another, some are more closely linked than others. Mariachi isn't similar to, say, a cappella, but blues, funk, and rock are all very closely linked genres. You could say that ruining one genre ruins them all.

Meh I don't think so, I mean you could say that R&B was a bastardization of the blues, and funk bastardized R&B and that the chilli's mixed rock and bastardized funk, so by association they bastardized blues.....But really why on earth would I bother saying that. :D My point is that every genre has taken influence from another, you can't draw comparisons between them.

That makes logical sense, I guess, but you'd have to prove that the genre that RHCP plays is similar enough to blues to be a bastardization of the genre. Swing is pretty blatantly connected to jazz, so saying electro-swing "ruined" jazz is at least logically consistent. I don't know how you'd go about proving that, say "Dani California" is similar enough to blues music to be "ruining" blues. You could perhaps say that a handful of RHCP songs are similar to blues, but not their entire catalogue.

The "swing" part of "electro-swing" is very important too, though. It's equal parts electro and sub-jazz.
