Thanks for the video and the advice in this thread. So like some of you, I too live in the middle of no where. What is the best DVD advanced slalom training course available?

Thanks for the great advice. Since this video was filmed, I have dropped the bad advice of back weighting. It is a compensational trick. If you are evenly balanced then you can carve an honest turn and be ready for the next pull.
It's great to see how much discussion this video has created. There's some awefully pretty sking videos on youtube, but nobody bothers to break it down as a how to.

you dont want to be on the back foot through the turn. more weight on the front foot through the turn puts more ski in the water for a more aggressive and controled turn. as you exit the turn put more weight on the back to get better accelleration out of the turn and to put you earlier for the next bouy.
when i cut fast over the wake i basically get 5 ft. of air. even when i use my knees for absobing the wake

Sounds like you are standing up when you hit the wake. Maintain your hard edge (leaning away from the boat). Then your ski will cut through the wake rather than bouncing over it. This takes some huevos at first, but after a few brutal falls, you'll get it down.

This is 20 year old instruction. This is NOT how you make new skis perform. Weight should be evenly spread between front and back feet, shoulders facing the boat, deep knee bend through the wake, counter rotation in preturn. Watch any of the current pros and you will understand.

Thanks for the clarification. The weight on back foot has been sufficiently debunked. Please tell us a bit more about counter rotation.

At the time you release your hand from the handle for a single handed turn, your shoulder away from the boat should rotate slightly away fromt the boat. That allows your posture to be correct on top of the ski, rather than breaking at the waist as you enter the turn. Keeps you behind the ski.

Thanks, Woodman, makes sense. We'll give it a try this weekend. We are spending 3 days at the lake. Water Temp 54.

Seriously, This counter rotation is the solution to so many of the things I do wrong. It keeps the skier from bending at the waist and crushing before setting up the next hard pull.
