  • how big are the cylinders in that beast and and why it not reving faster

  • @devildriver66621 The bore and stroke are 6,7 x 7,5 in / 170 x 190 mm The whole engine has a displacement of 4210 cui / 69 litres. The engine is ideling after startup, at 600 r.p.m. At full throttle it runs at 1800 r.p.m. The locomotive has 15 notches at the controller (US standard is normaly 8)

  • Air starter right? And what is the thing the even numbers are on and why are they even? EVEN pistons one one site and Odd pistons on other?

  • No, electric starters, two of them, 24V. The numbers marks each sylinder. If ther's a problem ore something, its easier for the mechanics to know what sylinder it is, if they'r marked with numbers. Even numbers on one bank, and odd on the other bank, and a total of 16 sylinders on this engine.

  • power!

  • We rebuild these at WesTrac CAT, This is one of the Aussie CAT dealers, All of the 3500 series engines sound so awesome!!

  • That's one big Kitty Cat... LOL

  • @narvik01 : Nice information you shared.

  • is this on a train or what

  • @wlj92 I took a course at Universal Tech Institute in Phoenix, Joined the Teamsters. then later on went to work for contractors. building Diesel engines, Cummins, detroit, Caterpillar, Deuitz. after 24 yrs then these Big Cats started coming my way. parts are heavy and most of the time yo have to carry cylinder heads to the top of these 793 trucks.. good thing we're doing one hole at a time..Pick a good school and pursue this career, it's rewarding and a lot of whining from ones not trained.

  • not bad at all. must be turning one hell of a generator.

  • Can be up to 2300 HP in the dumptrucks..

  • @douro20 thats for both engines, major out of frame overhauls.

  • @caddy52

Is that for each of the engines or a frame-out rebuild on both?
