WWV broadcasts marine storm warnings 8 and 9 minutes after each hour. This message was issued 2008 Sep 28 and received on 10 MHz.

The readability of the marine storm information is not as good as the WWV time announcements or station identifications.

WWV time and I.D. announcements are very clear. The storm information reports are essentially unintelligible. The audio is muffled and the voice enunciation is poor.

Ten-Tec T1253 receiver with half-wave dipole antenna. Received by NG9D, Plainfield, Illinois.

  • I ordered it but won't ever hear it play. The Bandswitch board is screened single-side, but TT expects you to mount the componenents on BOTH sides, following a low-res xeroxed copy of the manual. The sides were not even marked "front" and "back". I tried to understand the mess, mounted the parts on both sides as I thought the lousy print and poor images were instructing, then found I had mounted everything backwards and that it wouldn't fit the panel. I threw the entire kit in the garbage.

  • @mnpd007 Don't give up on this cool little project! Your error is easily fixed. Just contact Ten-Tec. From my experience, they will replace minor damaged parts at little or no cost. I know this from experience -- but I won't go into that here ;-) 73 de NG9D . .

  • @mnpd007 Hi Tom, I also read your (KA4DQJ) product review on eham.net. I am sorry you had a bad experience. I suggest you contact Ten-Tec for replacement parts. You can also write to me directly, however please understand I am just a fellow ham radio operator. I do not work for Ten-Tec. I wish you the very best. 73 Lynn NG9D

  • What kind of antenna do you use on this radio?

  • coax fed half-wave dipole

  • I like that receiver's appearance alot. Is it a Ten-Tec kit?

  • Thanks for the question. It is a TenTec T1253 kit.

  • I think they two announcers there, and they both did an unacceptable job with their mumbling. And they're still saying, "End of broadcast," to boot. Somebody needs to walk through their office and slap every one involved in that recording.

  • same with wwvh, their staff are retarded they cant even announce properly

  • That guy who phoned in the high seas bulletin didn't speak loudly enough.

  • nice kit i love the one i have

  • I remember back in the 80s, at 16 minutes past the hour on WWV and 47 minutes past on WWVH, they used to have Omega Navigation Station operation status reports. Those are gone since GPS took over in the 90s.
