This is an original composition for a small Balinese orchestra and North Indian classical instruments. It was written in Jaital, a 13 beat rhythm cycle. The scale is known as Pelog in the Balinese system and as Raag Bhoopal Todi in the North Indian system. It is an attempt to blend together elements of both musical traditions such as different styles of interlocking rhythm patterns (kotekan) from the Balinese style and Tihais (rhythmic patterns that repeat three times) from the North Indian style. One element that the two cultures share is cyclic rhythm cycles, exemplified by the Gong and by the Tabla.
This piece presented many interesting challenges for all the musicians and I offer my sincere gratitude to all who contributed. Special thanks go to Pak I Nyoman Wenten, Tyler Yamin, Dave Cipriani and John Stephens for their great ideas in developing this piece. The name of this piece is the Sanskrit word for cooperation.
Beautiful, but what the hell is the thing that looks like a guitar?

Hey beatlefreak777. It's a North Indian Slide Guitar. Basically looks like a western guitar but has a set of sympathetic strings underneath the main playing strings that vibrate when certain notes are played. That's why you see so many tuning pegs coming out from the neck. Thanks for the comment.
