David Gilmour is a stratospherically talented guitarist; however, this aspect of his career tends to overshadow the fact that he is also terrific vocalist. To most fans, David's is the preferred voice of Pink Floyd. Calming and beautifully haunting, in four decades David's voice has held up incredibly well. No real difference exists between David singing in 2006 vs. 1969 ... his voice is slightly deeper, but its clarity has remained virtually unchanged!

David's voice is perfect for rocking babies to sleep due to its lullaby effect -- it's true; just ask any mom.

Songs in this video, set to various nature scenes, are as follows (please note that David is singing main vocals as well as harmonies, via multi-tacking):

1969: Cymbaline
1970: Fat Old Sun
1970: Embryo
1972: Wot's the Deal
1973: Breathe
1973: Us and Them
1979: Hey You
1979: Mother
1979: Comfortably Numb
1987: On the Turning Away

  • Possibly few things on earth more hauntingly beautiful than watching David Gilmour sing "Cymbeline"

  • @IsisTiamat

Agreed ... David has always had a beautifully haunting, echo-like quality to his voice, and you definitely know it is David singing. Just like his guitar playing, his voice is very distinctive. Watching him do anything ... well, that's always mesmerizing ;o)

  • not only is david an amazing guitar player and vocalist

    he is amazingly beautiful

David is one of the few rockers from this era who have aged very well.

He is also one of the few to retain vocal clarity and range, and one of the most instrumentally accomplished.

  • Actually one of my favorite things about Gilmour and Pink Floyd is the vocals and the harmonies. Musically speaking that is. If i had to choose between the guitar talent or vocal talent to have as my own i would choose vocal. Hes one of the best guitarists, but i think his voice and his singing are just as amazing.

  • Audibly and visually, beautifully mind-blowing!

  • Im sorry, gilmour will always be in my heart, but i prefer rogers voice.

  • @KarmicOmen Indeed :)

  • Correction: I saw Pink Floyd, not in 1989, but on 06 May 1988. While I initially forgot the date, I'll never forget the concert! Over 22 years later and I'm still reeling ;o)

  • @AlexandriaDaniels Watch Robert Wyatt's Meltdown Concert from 2001/2002. David was a guest artist. David ends his set with "Hushabye Mountain" from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and another wonderfully melancholy song "The Dimming of the Day".

  • That was almost TOO calming, I feel kind of high now lol. Amazing song choices! I love Hey You so much!
