Welcome to the AER Group!

We are a custom model railroad design and facbrication company offering beautifully handcrafted N, HO, O or G Scale Model Railroads. Located in Covington, Kentucky our eleven hundred foot facility offers custom benchwork and layout design for your home or business.

We start all of our projects by determining the size and operating location of your layout. As a team we consider both the timeline and operating budget to satisfy production expectations. Other key elements we focus on are your imagination and operating experience to blend a particular operating era, season or theme.

Here we have a Custom Model Railroad Gold Series 27'x6' layout. This layout is built in a modular type fashion allowing the sections to be moved or replaced as needed. Is has over a dozen turnout's with operating 2 color LED automatic blocks and four mains (three upper and one lower). One of the four mains offer a crossover enabling trains to be moved from the upper to lower mains. All track is Atlas Nickle Code 100.

Other custom features of this layout include a large yard for swithing, staging area and a tremendous amount of scenery. Details including five (5) double main-track truss bridges, four (4) tunnels and several sidings. The layout can essentially be made into any era.

Wiring for the layout is offered as either DC analog or DCC. A control panel has been built for operating blocks and turn-outs (switches) on a custom painted track plan. In addition, the layout features Nickle Code 100 track holsters for DCC operations.

This is a pefect layout for any rail enthusiast, working parent or grandparent wanting wanting to get started and not wanting to deal with benchwork or scenery.

We offer this and other layouts at affordable prices. In addition, we also offer financing in the construction of all of our custom layouts.Delivery and set-up is available within the tri-state area (OH, KY, IN). Shipping is available anywhere in the U.S. R+L Carrers for interested parties outside of the delviery area.

Local pick up is avialable.

  • Thanks for contacting us regarding our 22 x 7 video. The largest layout has been a 30 x 30 HO scale with a walk in peninsula. The entire system was DCC and had an era of 1930 to 1945 coal and logging. Signaling was Pennsylvania specific and built in automated block indication/detection systems.

Give us a call when you have a moment. The shop is open from 8 AM to 6 PM Eastern time. The office number is 859-394-4579 or you can reach me at awartman@aergroup.net.

    Talk to you soon!

  • Good evening,

The bridges are actually made by Walthers. The staff connected five of them together and then built double concrete piers for support. We weathered them with chalks along with aging the concrete as well. The through pier was custom cut and casted as well.

    Thanks for the question!

  • do you have tips for signals

  • @JasonsStories

    Good evening!

Depending on the type of signal and manufacturer signals are pretty easy in terms of installation. However, if you've never put some in this is obviously the wrong statment for sure. If you are using dwarfs in a yard and are also using tortoise switch machines, you can wire your signals (red/gree) for diverging or allignment along with the turnout control wiring. So essentially, your switch motor controls the signal. Give us a call if you have questions.
