A few years ago I got into an argument with someone who said you can't drag knee at safe speeds on the street. So that day I went out right after work and went to work trying to drag my knee in a complete circle @ under 10mph. The parking lot was kinda sandy so my rear tire slipped a few times but I ended up doing it a couple times in the video.

PS - No, i'm not a squid, it was hot and my camera was on my jacket - but the race pants stayed on for the pucks. :D

Just thought i'd finally throw it up on youtube for posterity

  • I'll be practicing in a parking lot today, with permission from the security supervisor, so no worry about the police state. Feels just like a raceday, at 10 mph.

  • Nice! How'd that go?

I've setup cones and stuff in large parking lots. I practiced tight turns and aggressive braking. It almost always fun... except when security gets all bent out of shape

  • ... Thats an overexaggerated lean....

  • I definitely agree w/ you that you CAN drag a knee safely on city roads, without exceeding the speed limit. Depending on the degree of the turn, you can drag a knee at no more than the posted speed limit. Of course it is reckless to drag a knee on some turns where clearly you have to be going faster than the speed limit. But traffic round abouts and parking lots are great to learn. Nice vid!!

  • @se7en154 - This is exactly why I did it this direction. It was tricky enough with all the sand/gravel, but to have my wrist at an awkward angle on the throttle would've made it harder. FWIW - this is in Santa Barbara - hence the sand.

  • @lagunaruna i just tried this today and I must say that it's hard to do in the counter-clockwise direction because throttle control felt weird with my right hand down at slower speeds.

  • Hey cool vid, thx for sharing! I recently picked up a Ducati 999 and it hasnt been an easy bike to figure out.. I am going to try the slower speed circles like you are demonstrating and see if I can get more comfortable leanin the thing over.. Crazy question, but did you try doing it in the other direction?

  • you can totally drag at street safe speed, it just depends on the corner your dragging on, a really tight one, oh yea, now a mild one, you might have to step up the speed.

  • haha
