This is a terrific and exciting piece of music, similar in energy to the Symphonie Concertante by Joseph Jongen (1873-1953), another under-appreciated work.

The work as a whole is an extremely successful 'transcription' by the composer of his own 8th Sonata for organ solo.

II: Adagio con affetto

Ian Tracey with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra under the baton of Yan Pascal Tortelier.
Recorded in the beautifully evocative acoustic of Liverpool Cathedral.

  • He wrote much lyrically beautiful music. Section starting at 4:37 is a good example. Pity his work is not more widely known.
