I listen to this song and it brings back memories of my parents and old Hawaii. I feel joy and sadness at the same , Sad because most of that generation is now gone, joy because the music is still here.

My mother use to play the piano for Emma Veary when she was a little girl. Everytime I hear her sing this song, I would remember my mother. This such a beautiful song. Last night a tribute was given to Irmgard Farden Aluli by The Kamehameha School and when the seniors sang E Maliu Mai--I knew already they were going to win.Congratulations Class of 2011 for the clean sweep last night March 18.Mahalo for a wonderful night, I so appreciated hearing my granddaughter who is a lovely junior- my love.

I hear this song every week in my hula class! We use it to go through the various momements used in the dance. Today I got curious to see if I could get more info on the song and found this wonderful video! Mahalo for uploading it.

My humble apologies I intended to save space I meant to say Pumehana song and then go on to say that last night The Kamehameha Schools dedicated their evening to Irmgard Farden Aluli. I am still feeling the beauty of last nights performance. Mahalo to you all for giving me such a beautiful experience. I am a graduate of Kailua High School 1966 and Thelma Bugbee was my teacher and I miss her. Our Hawaiian language flourishes and so does Kawainui swamp. Much aloha to the Aluli family, mahalo.

Such a treasure. Auntie Irmgard was very supportive of my songs. She welcomed me into her home and made me feel like family. She is sorely missed but her spirit will live on forever through her music and wonderful family.

Auntie Irmgard played especially for my family on a visit to Kailua to see my husband's family. She sang at a small bbq. I had no idea at the time of how significant this belle was to traditional Hawaiian music. It was one of those magical experiences in life! Thanks you Jan for arranging it all.

Mahalo to you, Kawika, for posting all these incredible videos of our mele! We are indebted to you for your wonderful gift of sharing!
Last Thanksgiving, walking along Kalakaua Ave. about 10pm one night, a group of street musicians, 2 Tahitians, 2 haoles, the kind who look like they've been beach bums forever, passed the hat one last time. Suddenly, the younger haole guy got up, put his uke down and while the other guys sang, danced this song. People stopped and watched. He was wonderfully graceful. When he ended, all applauded wildly, stepped forward and filled the kitty. Big smiles all around!!
