100% Gold Star Expert Vocals performance on Just Dance by Lady GaGa, as it appears in Rock Band 2 for PlayStation 3.

As is typical for my videos, the original vocal track by Lady GaGa and Colby O'Donis (thanks Slayerfan7790!) is minimized so you can hear what I'm singing.

---

Lady GaGa's one of my guilty pleasures, but I hadn't actually played Just Dance on vocals until recently, whereby I almost failed my sightread because of the bridge (at 3:08) which made absolutely no sense whatsoever to me.

So... this video. After several days of picking away at the pitches in between all those overpowering harmonies, I figured out what most of them were supposed to be. Hopefully this helps some of you out there who were just as surprised as I was to see such a difficult vocal part in Lady GaGa song.

Other than the bridge, there's very very few places to breathe in this song; you're covering for two singers, and they're both cheating by using multi-track vocals. So take nice deep breaths whenever you can.

Note that some of the "just dance" lyrics in the chorus are up 1 note. I'll try to annotate it so you can figure out what to watch for, but it's another easy way to break combo on this song. And the male parts have absuuuurdly fast lyrics.

And hey, I can always use more practice with my falsetto (which I hate, but it won't get any better if I never use it...)

  • Damn! That is some serious octave shifting after the bridge!

BTW @IcemageJT: The male vocalist in the song's name is Colby O'Donis. I noticed you didn't mention him in the description.

  • @Slayerfan7790 Thanks for the tip! Updated, with credit to you.

  • I don't see why that sustain at the end is worth a mention. It's so freaking short :/

    The bridge however is hell.

  • @ggINcs It's not that the sustain is long - it's just insult to injury because the phrases prior to it just drain your breath. I blew up a few recording runs because I ran out of air on that sustain; really frustrating considering its phrase 79 of 83, and just past the bridge.

  • ..."keep it cool what's the name of this club" was awesome!!

but.... OMG! ...fast rapping symphonic falsetto beast. Holy octave switching hottness!!

<3 Icemage now where are the siquined gloves?!? :D You've inspired me to make some more videos again. be prepared.

  • @gothiclysm Haha <3 I'm glad you liked it, hon! Can't wait to see what you come up with! As for the sequined gloves, they didn't make it back with me from Atlantic City :( But I'm sure I'll find something else fun to wear next year!

  • That's awesome. I love your videos. I am gonna try to upload some videos, though the video quality is horrific. Gonna try this song now!! :)

  • Wow, nice job on that one Mr. Icemage. Friends made me sing this one at a Rock band party and it was pretty ugly. I tried to sing it at the proper pitch which didn't work at all yet you pulled it off.

  • Wow! Nice work as always, Jim, but I must say, your singing voice sounded smoother in this vid than in some of your others, especially during the "Bridge from Hell" part where you constantly switched from falsetto and regular singing voice. Very nicely sung! Keep it up!

  • I love your voice. If you were to sing your original songs, i'd listen to them. no joke.

  • wooow D:

  • @ILovePeanutButer7181 Really? Lady GaGa made you hate music? Dude, there are WAY more "artists" out there that can make you hate music more than GaGa. Like Justin Beiber.

At any rate, you do realize that a lot of people got these games to have FUN? And quite honestly, these would probably be great songs at a party. I dislike Lady GaGa as well, but at least she actually sings, and is WAAAY better than Beiber. You want your faith in music returned? Listen to some Beatles. Nuff said.

  • @ILovePeanutButer7181 I will gladly take a week of Miley or Lady Gaga for a week of Alice in Chains or the Deftones no questions asked! As long as I'm not forced to buy it. Plus people have fun with these songs. That's why this game has been popular for so long....Oh and great job on this IcemageJT, this looks really tough.
