In this tutorial, hard & snappy snares are the order of the day.

In this series of tutorials I will be making a short, heavy dubstep tune going right from building drums to sound design, bass resampling, using return tracks, mixing and self mastering.

If you like artists such as Skrillex, Downlink, Excision, Datsik, Borgore, Rusko, 12th Planet then these tutorials will help you.

  • When i put the compression on, I don't get the sends for each individual snare. What am I doing wrong???

  • @minxkitty8 - Inside the Drum Rack itself, below the squares where you insert the samples, you will see three button, "IO", "S" and "R".. Make sure "R" is checked and your sends will appear in the channel for that Drum Rack. Alternatively, clicked "S" will make the send appear within the Drum Rack itself - In the Chain section. Hope this helps!

  • 4:08 - winning?

  • @TuningFreak23 - Haha, that's my txt tone - "Wow, WINNING!"

  • Cool videos mate, well done with good content. A question : why do you eq each snare so that they all "take their own space". Why do you need to do that. Can t you just layer them then use a compressor to do the mixing for you? Cheers

  • @1ino1eum - Good question! It's because you can't "mix" with a compressor. A compressor squashes the signal after the attack time, meaning - Before the attack time, you are still taking up 4 un-EQ'd snares worth of headroom and after the attack time, you are squashing the attractive qualities out of the snare like brightness and dynamics! Hope this helps

  • Such good tutorials.... I think would be good for beginners but even better of those who have created one or two tunes already. I've followed this one and the Bass one so far and my drums sound so much better already. The format you use is great as its so easily transferred into any electronic genre. Really impressed!!!

  • ya gotta zoom in man, cant see whih snare youre on or what number the dials on EQ etc are at

  • Kudos! You sure do know what the hell you are doing! I kept wondering why my drums had no life in it. This has helped solve my problem. Thanks, Ascian!
