At the ninth annual Al Awda convention, Palestinian-American poet, writer, and activist Remi Kanazi shares the struggles and concerns of the Palestinian people through his spoken word performance. This program includes interview footage excerpted from the DVD "Cultural Intifada" produced by Moses Seenarine, courtesy of National Film Network.
As a college student in Hawaii learning about the Middle East, but also as an oppressed Hawaiian/American female interested in poetry and hip-hop, this video couldn't have been designed to be any more relevant to my life. I am completely inspired by the way Remi has chosen to join in the fight for Palestine through spoken word. His poetry is passionate, informative, honest, cutting, and raw. It inspires me even more than I already have been, to use writing as a medium for social change.
