@cbpointblank He won it for a split second against Bret Hart in a lumberjack match on Coliseum video. The video is on youtube; it was one of those matches where Vince teased everyone, kind of like Santino almost winning the Royal Rumble this year.

@AntonBatey oh well. Owen was doubly in the doghouse back then, for breaking Austin's neck at that summerslam. There was no way he was getting near the title, fair or not. Wish he'd gotten a reign in somewhere, but I guess it was Austin's time.

I agree. And to make it worse, Triple H won the feud. In my opinion, this was the one, single chance McMahon had to push Owen to World Championship status and he blew it. The Montréal Screwjob was fresh in everyone’s mind, Owen was the last Hart left, and a feud with Michaels would have been awesome.

The should have had Owen win the belt the next night on Raw, had Owen loose it back to Shawn at Royal Rumble after interference from Triple H, which would have built their feud good.
