I think having a conductor is a necessity in this Concerto under most circumstances. The ensemble is clearly struggling to get together and stay together. With all due respect, perhaps there was there no qualified conductor available at the time?

I totally agreed. In fact, it was a all Beethoven program. I conducted the Sym No.5 at the second half of the concert.
