this is the distinct whine of the large Narcissus fly Merodon equestris. It lays its eggs on members of the Amaryllidaceae family which includes Narcissus, Galanthus and Nerines. The female lays one egg per bulb and goes for healthy bulbs. The small Narcissus fly lays on damaged or dying bulbs

  • I am riddled with this pest - thanks for the video. I know what to look out for now and can shoo them away from my favourite Galanthus!
