@ScientologyStoners No, it closed because the original idea of NUMMI was not embraced by management throughout GM and bad managers always see the only way to cut costs is to lay people off. If the NUMMI ideology had been adopted at all GM plants, we would have seen the success of Toyota mirrored by GM.
@rkmugen They look incredible, classy, futuristic and high end, get 300 miles per charge, and cost around $50k. The Chevy Volt? Looks like cheap crap, costs $30k and a has a feeble 40 mile per charge limitation. I was already sold on the Model S, and learning of the NUMMI association only gets me more excited to buy one!
Naw....S model still not within the price range of your average worker. Price needs to fall within the 12,000 to 18,000 dollar range. Then I will be impressed.
Thanks Tesla and Toyota, you both treat American people better than the rest of American car makers... Good for you both, best wishes for Tesla and best wishes for Toyota
@ScientologyStoners You got a good point, i say that because i worked at nummi. But, i must remind you and others that. Nummi, would not close down if Government motors woud not pull out. Also, GM pulled out of nummi in two weeks and didnt give us anything. Toyota, gave us 6 months notice and a nice package.

The Ban on Alt- Fuel cell Cars until the year 2015 has been forced on us by the Petroleum Industry.
When 2015 rolls around the Petroleum lobby hopes to extend the moratorium until 2025.
It may take Anti-Trust Action to allow Alternative Fueled Vehicles to be SOLD in the United States.
In the mean time, only limited lease programs will be allowed.
